Rosemarie Cantero, James Dean and Jesse Ortega Injured in Lewiston Car Crash
Rosemarie Cantero, James Dean and Jesse Ortega Hospitalized in Highway 299 Collision Near Trinity Dam Boulevard
LEWISTON, CA (June 19, 2020)—A two-vehicle accident along Highway 99 near Trinity Dam Boulevard last Friday left three people with injuries.
Around 4:40 p.m., California Highway Patrol said the roads had been wet when 34-year-old Rosemarie Cantero, of Junction City, was traveling too fast for current road conditions.
As she traveled westbound, she tried negotiating a curve on the road; however, her 2011 Acura MDX veered into the eastbound lane and collided with a Ford F-350 pickup truck head-on.
Due to the brute impact of the two cars colliding, firefighters had to extricate Cantero, whom they found trapped inside the wreckage of her vehicle, before transporting her to Mercy Hospital in Redding with major injuries.
Fortunately, her child evaded harm and, per reports, had been safely secured in a child car seat.
The occupants of the Ford—James Dean and Jesse Ortega of White City, Ore.—sustained moderate injuries in the accident.
No other information regarding this crash was available.
A car accident can occur at any time and as drivers, we must prepare ourselves for the unforeseen. Drive defensively by keeping a three- to four-second cushion from the car ahead. Traveling at a safe speed limit, especially in unfamiliar areas, can buy you time and road clearance in case an emergency occurs. Bear these tips in mind whenever you are behind the wheel.
