2 Killed in Crash with Coca-Cola Truck on Highway 285 and Highway 106 [Española, NM]
2 Die in Two-Car Accident in Española
ESPANOLA, NM (June 18, 2020) — Two woman died after a Tuesday morning accident involving a semi-truck on Highway 285 and Highway 106.
According to Española Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jeremy Apodaca, the incident befell around 6:00 a.m. A Chrysler minivan shuttling two women southbound on the highway crossed over the center median for unknown reasons.
The minivan, traveling over the 45-mph posted speed limit, subsequently struck a northbound Coca-Cola semi-truck head-on. As a result, the semi-truck to burst into flames after its tank exploded on impact.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and ushered the two minivan occupants to a local hospital. However, they succumbed to their injuries and died.
The driver of the semi-truck survived the crash, however with injuries from the fire. However, the driver cooperated with investigators.
Authorities have not confirmed the ultimate cause of the accident.
Although the victims’ identities have been confirmed by officials, they will wait on releasing their names due to pending notification of family members.
