Fatal DUI Crash on Mission Avenue at Airport Road [Oceanside, CA]
1 Dead, 1 Injured in Oceanside Two-Vehicle Accident
OCEANSIDE, CA (June 18, 2020) — A passenger died Wednesday following a fiery DUI crash on Mission Avenue at Airport Road.
According to police, tragedy struck around 11:00 a.m. when a westbound sedan slammed into an unoccupied soda delivery truck before bursting into flames. Witnesses testified that the sedan made a sudden lane change at high speeds before the impact; however, an investigation into this account remains.
Patrol officers arrived at the scene and pulled the driver and unconscious passenger out from the burning sedan. From there, paramedics transported both patients to a hospital where the passenger died; the victim’s name was withheld pending family notification.
As for the driver, medics treated him or her for non-life-threatening injuries.
Fortunately, the driver of the Pepsi truck had not been inside the vehicle at the time.
Further investigations revealed that alcohol might have played a role, but authorities have yet to explore these details.
