Fatal Accident in Santa Maria Car Crash at Main Street
SANTA MARIA, CA (June 8, 2020) — A multi-car crash at Main Street and Black Road resulted in two fatalities and four injuries Friday.
According to news reports, the multi-vehicle collision befell around 6:05 p.m. near Bonita School Road. Santa Barbara County Fire reported two fatalities, while paramedics airlifted two patients with serious injuries and two with minor injuries to Cottage Hospital.
The ultimate cause of the collision remains under investigation, but witnesses have informed authorities of their knowledge.
Per witnesses, a 2004 Nissan was seen traveling eastbound on the right dirt shoulder of West Main Street. It tried passing several vehicles at a high rate of speed before its driver lost control.
Witnesses saw the car spin toward the westbound lanes and strike another vehicle head-on. The impact pushed the second vehicle over to the right dirt shoulder of the road while the Nissan continued eastbound, in the westbound lanes, and struck the left side of a Chevrolet.
Reports failed to indicate whether the two fatal victims were occupants of the Nissan, Chevrolet or second vehicle.
No other information was available at this time.
