Man Dies in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 101 Near San Martin Avenue [San Martin, CA]
Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Car in San Martin
SAN MARTIN, CA (June 4, 2020) — A 66-year-old man was struck and killed by a driver in a pedestrian crash on Highway 101 near San Martin Avenue early Wednesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on the southbound highway. The unidentified pedestrian purportedly stopped his vehicle in the center divider, exited his car and began walking toward another vehicle on the right-hand shoulder.
However, an oncoming 2012 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 58-year-old woman, struck him. As a result, the victim died.
As for the driver, she did not suffer any injuries and stayed at the scene for police questioning. Investigators say neither drugs nor alcohol played a role, but the hunt for the cause continues.
Because details remain unclear, authorities encourage witnesses to contact Officer J. Christiansen at (408) 848-2324 to help with the investigation.
We’d like to extend our condolences to the bereaved family and friends of the victim. This is no easy time for the family and we hope they find courage and strength in those around them.
