Woman Critical After Hit-and-Run Accident on Wood Street [Taft, CA]
DUI Driver Involved in Hit-and-Run Crash in Taft
TAFT, CA (May 28, 2020) – Police confirmed that a woman became critical after a hit-and-run accident on Wood Street on Thursday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened near Lierly Avenue around 5:30 PM.
A report showed that a Chevrolet Cruze ran two stop signs before hitting the victim’s Ford. In addition, crash impact pushed both vehicles into the front yard of a home. As a result, the woman was left pinned in her wrecked car. The suspect vehicle fled the scene on foot after the incident.
Kern County firefighters used a chain saw to cut away a downed tree, then use hydraulic extrication tools to pry open the wreckage to free the victim. As a result, paramedics said she suffered critical injuries, including a possible broken pelvis and a broken femur. A helicopter took her to Kern Medical Center.
Police later apprehended the driver of the Cruze. CHP officers took him into custody for drunk-driving hit and run. However, no other details are currently available.
Authorities strictly remind motorists to not leave the scene after an accident. However, wait for the authorities to arrive. Always stay sober, manage your speed, and avoid reckless driving to avoid getting into an accident.
