James Taite Killed, Brandon Lopes Arrested for DUI in Pedestrian Accident [Las Vegas, NV]
James Taite Killed, Brandon Lopes Charged Following Maryland Parkway Pedestrian Crash Near East Twain Avenue
LAS VEGAS, NV (May 28, 2020)—A Las Vegas man died last Friday following a DUI pedestrian accident on Maryland Parkway near East Twain Avenue.
The incident happened around 9:22 p.m. on May 22. just south of East Twain Avenue. A southbound 2003 Ford Escape struck the 66-year-old pedestrian who crossed from east to west outside of a marked crosswalk.
According to police, the front of the Ford struck the man, knocking him onto the street, where a second vehicle drove over him and dragged him on the roadway. Unfortunately, that driver fled the scene and his or her whereabouts remain unknown.
Brandon Lopes — the driver of the Ford — tried fleeing the scene by foot. However, officers caught onto him quickly and learned that impairment on his part partly drove the accident.
As for the pedestrian, police identified him as James Taite by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
Detectives have left this case open as they seek witnesses’ help in identifying the passengers in the Ford and the driver of the second vehicle. If anyone has insight into this crash, please call the police at (702) 828-3595.
