Man in Wheelchair Dies in El Cajon Pedestrian Accident
EL CAJON, CA (May 21, 2020) — A man in a wheelchair died Tuesday night in a pedestrian accident at Broadway and North 1st Street.
According to Lt. Jason Taub of the El Cajon Police Department, police and paramedics arrived around 8:40 p.m. and found a pedestrian in the roadway whom they treated immediately after. Paramedics rushed the victim to a hospital where he died shortly after.
In their investigation, authorities say a white Toyota Camry heading eastbound on Broadway struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian who had been in a wheelchair was crossing Broadway against a red light.
The driver who struck the unidentified elder stayed at the scene and cooperated with police questioning. Officers ruled out alcohol and drugs as contributing sources to the accident.
