Man Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 154 [Santa Barbara, CA]
One Killed and One Injured in Two-Car Crash near Cachuma Lake
SANTA BARBARA, CA (May 15, 2020) – Police confirmed that a 21-year-old man died in a head-on crash on Highway 154 on Friday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened near Cachuma Lake around 5:30 PM.
The Santa Maria man crossed the double yellow lines while driving his 1999 Honda Accord at a high rate of speed. As a result, he crashed head-on into a 2019 Ford.
Responders from the CHP Buellton Area Office, Santa Barbara County Fire Department, and American Medical Response transported both drivers to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. As a result, the Honda driver was pronounced dead. The 40-year-old New Mexico woman driving the Ford was treated for injuries to her head, chest and legs.
Officials closed Highway 154 in both directions for about one hour while they removed the wrecked vehicles from the roadway.
Police did not release the names of the victims as well as other details related to the case. However, they continue to investigate the collision.
