Nelson Guzman Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on 880 Freeway at 29th Avenue
OAKLAND, CA (May 18, 2020)—A well-known graffiti artist died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident late Thursday on the 880 Freeway at 29th Avenue.
According to the Alameda County coroner’s office, the fatal victim has been identified as Nelson Guzman. Investigators determined that the 39-year-old man who had just painted graffiti on the 880 Freeway center divider in Oakland died when an unknown vehicle struck him in the southbound lanes at the 29th Avenue off-ramp.
Officials confirmed that he had died at the scene just after the 11:42 p.m. impact.
Officers have no information surrounding the involved vehicle but hope those with information surrounding the accident will come forward.
Due to the crash, officials issued a Sig Alert for all southbound lanes as they investigated the scene for clues. If anyone would like to help authorities, please call the CHP at 510-457-2875.
