Moris Ruiz-Canizales Detained for Striking Police Officer With Stolen Car
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 14, 2020)—Police arrested a man who struck a police officer and two patrol vehicles on Gateway Boulevard near East Grand Avenue.
According to authorities, the incident happened around 4:10 a.m. Police officers were called to the 600 block a Gateway Boulevard after hearing reports about a person looking into parked cars with a flashlight.
Police said they found Moris Ruiz-Canizales sitting inside a 2018 Camry; however, as they tried arresting him, he reversed and struck a police officer on the right hip before striking two patrol vehicles as he exited the parking lot.
Subsequently, a brief chase unfolded and ended when the Toyota became disabled on a nearby center island. However, Ruiz-Canizales tried fleeing from the scene, failing to comply with officers’ orders to surrender.
In order to arrest him, officers used a dog and were able to place him into custody and conduct a search of the stolen Toyota, where they found a loaded fire gun, drugs and paraphernalia.
Following the crash, paramedics took Ruiz-Canizales to an area hospital for treatment of dog bites.
Per reports, officers booked him into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City on assault with a deadly weapon. In addition, police charged him with evading an officer, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place and others.
