11-Year-Old Brianna Sanchez Killed in Major Car Accident on Highway 99 [Selma, CA]
Nearly a Dozen Hurt, Child Killed in Selma Multi-Car Crash
SELMA, CA (May 12, 2020) — An 11-year-old girl died Sunday following a multi-vehicle fiery car accident on Highway 99 near East Mountain View Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash took place around 1:20 p.m. and resulted in the death of the young child from Delhi.
CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said the crash happened when 60-year-old Deudiel Ramirez failed to stop his big rig, which had been pulling a trailer of fruit, as it approached stopped traffic. As a result, the big rig slammed into five other cars and burst into flames.
Fifteen people were involved in the accident, 10 of whom sustained moderate to major injuries. After that, paramedics transported them to Community Regional Medical Center.
CHP officers identified those involved as 29-year-old Guillermo Sotelo Jr., of Fresno, as the operator of the 1990 Toyota pickup. Guillermo Sotelo Sr., 54; Miguel Sotelo, 4; and Jordan Sotelo, 2 — all Fresno residents — were passengers who needed treatment at the scene.
The 2004 Lincoln Navigator driver identified as 38-year-old Alejandro Sanchez, of Delhi, suffered moderate injuries. His passengers include 32-year-old Araceli Hernandez who suffered moderate injuries; 14-year-old Jesus Sanchez who sustained major injuries; 17-year-old Alejandro Sanchez Jr. who suffered major injuries; and 5-year-old Emmett Sanchez who sustained major injuries. All occupants are from Delhi
Alejandro Sanchez’s 11-year-old daughter, Brianna Sanchez, died at the scene.
A 2017 GMC van driver — 61-year-old Jose Cardenas, of Kingsburg — sustained minor injuries.
47-year-old Katina Hulse, of Point, Texas, whose 2020 Infinity QX60 became tangled in the crash sustained major injuries. However, her 57-year-old passenger, Lisa Jones, sustained moderate injuries.
44-year-old Roberto Morales, of Corcoran, avoided harm. However, his Ford pickup became involved in the accident.
The CHP says Ramirez could be charged with gross vehicular manslaughter.
