Driver Dies in Car Accident on 10 Freeway Near Riverside Avenue [Rialto, CA]
Pickup Collision With Freightliner in Rialto Turns Deadly
RIALTO, CA (May 5, 2020) — A driver of a pickup truck died during last Sunday’s car accident on 10 Freeway near South Riverside Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal victim is a 61-year-old San Bernardino man. Around 10:40 p.m. that Sunday, his eastbound 1995 blue Toyota T100 struck a 2017 white Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer combination that stopped in the No. 3 lane due to a mechanical failure.
Unfortunately, the pickup truck driver died at the scene. However, police did not identify the victim pending notification of next of kin.
The 34-year-old Hemet driver of the tractor-trailer stayed on site for investigations.
Authorities are investigating why the victim struck the back of the Freightliner since the tractor-trailer had its hazard lights switched on.
With deepest sympathies, we would like to take this moment to express our thoughts of courage, strength and support to the family and friends of the victim.
