Major Injuries Reported After Big Rig and Wrong-Way Driver Crash
SACRAMENTO, CA (May 5, 2020) — A wrong-way driver suffered major injuries in Monday’s a head-on accident on Highway 50 near Howe Avenue.
According to a California Highway Patrol incident log, the crash took place around 2:30 a.m. A truck hauling scrap metal was traveling westbound when a wrong-way driver slammed into it head-on. The force of the impact caused the truck to flip onto the eastbound side of the freeway, spilling the contents of metal onto the road, as well as diesel fuel onto the westbound lanes.
The wrong-way driver sustained major injuries, per CHP officials.
Due to the spill, crews had to close the area until 9 a.m. when all lanes reopened. At this time, authorities have not yet determined the ultimate cause of the accident. Anyone who would like to help the CHP, please call the department.
