Lisa Chavez Injured in Fatal Car Accident on Highway 33 [Gustine, CA]
Lisa Chavez Hospitalized, Luis Cruz Uninjured in Fatal Two-Car Accident on Highway 33 at Sullivan Road
GUSTINE, CA (April 24, 2020)—A 26-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday on Highway 33 near Sullivan Road.
According to Officer Shannon Stiers, Los Banos California Highway Patrol officers responded to the crash around 4:25 p.m.
Authorities determined that 23-year-old Lisa Chavez and her 26-year-old male passenger — both from San Jose — were heading northbound along the highway in a 1996 Acura Integra.
As Chavez tried attempting a left-hand turn onto Sullivan Road, her car turned directly in front of an oncoming 2017 Nissan Sentra, traveling southbound at an unknown speed. Officials added that the Nissan Sentra plowed into the passenger side of the Acura. As a result, fatally injuring Chavez’s passenger.
Paramedics transported Chavez to Los Banos Memorial Hospital. However, the 25-year-old Nissan driver, Luis Cruz of Santa Nella, avoided harm.
Authorities said neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the accident. However, officials have yet to determine the leading cause of the crash or why Chavez tried turning into oncoming traffic.
