Velma Soto and Luis Miranda Injured, 1 Killed in Multi-Car Crash on 10 Freeway [Pomona, CA]
Fatal Multi-Vehicle Accident near Kellogg Drive in Pomona
POMONA, CA (January 24, 2021) – Velma Soto and Luis Miranda were injured and another was killed in a multi-car crash on 10 Freeway early Sunday morning.
The 3-vehicle crash took place on the westbound lanes near Kellogg Drive. Pomona Valley Police arrived to the scene shortly after 12:00 a.m.
A 2013 Chevrolet Malibu rear-ended a 2018 Honda Accord that was disabled in the No. 4 lane. The impact pushed the Honda forward into three people who were standing outside the disabled Honda.
Shortly after, a westbound 2016 Chevrolet Cruze struck the Chevrolet Malibu. Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet Malibu that initiated the incident fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Officers later identified 32-year-old Christaphore Ruffin of Barstow, as the driver of the Cruze. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital for further examination.
In addition, 39-year-old Soto and 20-year-old Miranda of South Gate were also taken to Pomona Valley Medical Center for treatment.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, an unidentified 41-year-old man of South Gate was pronounced dead on scene.
All lanes of the freeway were reopened by 4:06 a.m. Once available, more information will be released.
