One Injured in Shooting Incident after Hit-and-Run Crash on 5th Avenue [Chula Vista, CA]
Hit-and-Run Crash Leads to Shooting on 5th Avenue near Palomar Street in Chula Vista
CHULA VISTA, CA (January 5, 2021) – A good Samaritan suffered injuries in a shooting incident that happened after a hit-and-run crash on 5th Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the collision happened at Palomar Street around 4:00 PM.
Based on a report, the 25-year-old man witnessed a non-injury hit-and-run crash. Subsequently, he followed the departing motorist, trying to get the license plate number of the vehicle. The shooting then erupted.
Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening bullet wound to the head.
Using a drone operated by the Chula Vista Police Department, an officer located the suspected hit-and-run driver’s car and watched as the alleged shooter, a 17-year-old boy, got out of a passenger seat and walked off, carrying a handgun. Officers then arrested and booked the boy into juvenile hall on suspicion of felony assault with a firearm.
Authorities strictly remind motorists to not leave the scene after an accident. Instead, wait for the authorities to arrive. In addition, always be weary of speeding vehicles to avoid getting into a crash.
