Man in Critical Condition After Pedestrian Crash on Soquel Drive [Soquel, CA]
Pedestrian Struck and Injured by Vehicle on Soquel Drive near North Rodeo Gulch Road in Soquel
SOQUEL, CA (December 19, 2020) – A man suffered critical injuries following a pedestrian crash on Soquel Drive on Saturday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near North Rodeo Gulch Road around 5:40 PM.
Based on a report, the 27-year-old victim was standing on the sidewalk on the northeast corner of Soquel Drive prior to the crash. Subsequently, he began to walk south across the street in the crosswalk. Due to unknown reasons, a 2003 Honda Accord that was traveling west on Soquel was unable to stop before hitting the pedestrian. The pedestrian went up onto the hood of the car as the driver hit the brakes and went into the intersection. After that, the front, right side of the car hit a metal guardrail on the northwest corner of the intersection, throwing the pedestrian from the hood onto a grassy area nearby.
As a result, paramedics said they took the pedestrian to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the Honda was not hurt in the incident.
CHP officials said that neither alcohol nor drugs played a part in the collision. However, an investigation is ongoing.
