Hit-and-Run Driver Sought After Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Highway 1 near Shaffer Road in Santa Cruz
SANTA CRUZ, CA (December 21, 2020) – Police confirmed that a 47-year-old man died in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash on Highway 1 on late Monday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just north of Shaffer Road.
Based on a report, the Santa Cruz man was walking along Highway 1 at the time of the crash. Due to unknown reasons, a black 2002 GMC Yukon struck him. Subsequently, the vehicle fled the scene.
As a result, paramedics said the victim died at the scene. Officials did not yet release his name pending kin notification.
Later on, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release that the car was recovered near the scene. At this point, officers ask anyone with information about the driver to call CHP at 831-662-0511 during the day or 831-796-2160 after hours.
