Alcohol Suspected in Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Highway 58 near H Street in Bakersfield
SANTA MARIA, CA (December 12, 2020) – Police confirmed that a man died in a pedestrian crash on Highway 58 on Saturday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just south of H Street at approximately 11:04 PM.
Based on a report, the victim was walking across the street at the time of the crash. Due to unknown reasons, he walked into the path of a 2012 Ford SUV that was heading westbound on the highway. The driver was unable to stop in time and hit the man.
As a result, the man died at the scene. Officials did not yet release the victim’s name pending kin notification.
Crews closed the westbound lanes of the highway and diverted the traffic onto H Street.
Police said alcohol appears to be a factor in the incident. However, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
