Four Killed in Fiery Car Crash on Highway 99 [Bakersfield, CA]
Vehicle Involved in Police Pursuit Fatally Crashes on Highway 99 in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (December 8, 2020) – Officers confirmed that four people died in a fiery car crash on Highway 99 on Tuesday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at the Herring Road off-ramp around 01:00 AM.
Based on a report, the Arvin Police Department chased a BMW after it committed multiple burglaries in the Arvin area. However, officers lost track of the car and called off the pursuit. Later on, the same BMW crashed into a dirt embankment. CHP officers found the car engulfed in flames.
As a result, Arvin Police said four people inside the BMW car died at the scene. Officials did not yet release the victims’ identities pending kin notification.
CHP says a preliminary investigation indicates the car was traveling at an unknown high rate of speed before crashing.
