18-Year-Old Cody Kolkow Dies in Crash on Brookside Avenue [Cherry Valley, CA]
Two Vehicles Involved in Fatal Crash on Brookside Avenue near Union Street in Cherry Valley
CHERRY VALLEY, CA (November 4, 2020) – Police identified Cody Kolkow as the 18-year-old driver who died in a two-vehicle crash on Brookside Avenue on Wednesday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at Union Street around 6:00 PM.
Based on a report, the Beaumont man was driving west on Brookside in a yellow Ford Mustang at the time of the crash. At the same time, a 39-year-old Beaumont manin a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was heading south on Union Street.
The truck driver drove through the intersection as the Ford approached it. Kolkow tried to avoid the truck by veering left, but the front of the Chevy struck the right front of the Mustang. Consequently, Kolkow’s car crashed into a wooden utility pole.
As a result, the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The truck driver was not hurt, but crews transported his wife to the hospital for complaints of pain.
The speed of the Ford as it approached the intersection is still under investigation. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be crash factors in the crash.
