Man Dies After Being Struck by Truck in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (October 13, 2020)—One person died Sunday when a driver had accidentally pressed on the accelerator instead of the brake, striking a man nearby at a parking lot on Story Road and King Road.
According to news reports, the incident happened around 6:10 p.m. at the La Placita Tropicana shopping center.
San Jose police stated in a news release that a woman operating a 2009 Ford F-150 tried parking the vehicle when she had accidentally pressed on the accelerator instead of the brakes.
Subsequently, the truck accelerated and struck a man standing near a food cart causing him severe injuries. Soon after, paramedics responded and transported the victim to a hospital where he died.
As of now, his name and residence have not yet been released.
However, the accident also caused injuries to a witness nearby. At some point during the accident, the cart also struck Fatima Soria, who claimed to have witnessed it all.
Yet at this point, an investigation remains as authorities determine the precise events that took place and the liabilities.
