Three Teens Injured in Car Accident on Solano Drive [Las Cruces, NM]
Single Vehicle Involved in Possible Street Racing Accident in Las Cruces
LAS CRUCES, NM (October 4, 2020) – At least three teenagers suffered injuries in a car accident on Solano Drive on Sunday morning.
According to Las Cruces police, the collision happened near Ridgetop Avenue at approximately 4:20 AM.
Based on a report, a 2007 Infinity was traveling south on Solano Drive at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. Investigators said the driver may have been attempting to race another vehicle and lost control of the car near the intersection. Subsequently, it crossed into the northbound lanes of traffic, jumped the curb, and crashed into a brick wall and through a tree.
Emergency crews said a 16-year-old boy in the front-seat passenger sustained critical injuries. They transported him and his brother, the 17-year-old driver of the car, to University Medical Center of El Paso. A 17-year-old boy at the backseat later self-admitted to a local hospital.
Findings showed the vehicle was on a temporary and expired license plate. Police said excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash. However, they continue to investigate the case.
