DUI Driver Involved in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 97 in Union Gap
UNION GAP, WA (October 2, 2020) – Authorities identified Meghan Keffer as the victim who was struck by a car driven by a DUI driver on Highway 97 on Friday night.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident happened shortly after 9:00 PM.
Based on a report, the 23-year-old Moxee woman was crossing the highway 2 miles south of Union Gap at the time of the collision. Due to an unknown reason, Jasmine Martinez, a woman driving a 2017 Nissan Altima south on the highway, struck her.
As a result, she suffered injuries in the incident. Emergency crews took her to Virginia Mason Memorial hospital for treatment. In addition, 31-year-old Martinez of Harrah, was not hurt in the crash.
Troopers said intoxicants were a factor in the crash and subsequently cited for unlawfully being in the roadway. However, an investigation into the case is ongoing.
