Marilyn Olmstead Hit, Killed by Car While Riding Bike on County Road 110 A Near North Davis Farms Road
DAVIS, CA (October 2, 2020) — A 76-year-old woman died Wednesday morning following a bicycle accident on County Road 110 A near North Davis Farms Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident happened around 10:00 a.m.
Reports say Marilyn Olmstead was riding her bicycle westbound on County Road 110A. At some point during her ride, a 2002 Ford Focus driver, heading northbound at approximately 40 to 45 mph, struck the 76-year old bicyclist, who reportedly pedaled into the driver’s path.
The 31-year old Davis man applied his brakes and steered left in an attempt to avoid the crash; however, it had been too late as the front of the vehicle struck Olmstead, a long-time chemistry professor at UC Davis.
Shortly after the collision, authorities pronounced Olmstead dead at the scene and interviewed the driver, whom officers did not charge or cite after questioning.
At this time, the crash remains under investigation and anyone with information should contact local authorities.
