Head-On Crash Kills Husband and Wife on Highway 380 in Lea County
LEA COUNTY, NM (September 24, 2020) – Authorities identified Kenny Comstock and Melissa Comstock as the victims who died in a head-on crash on Highway 380 on Thursday night.
According to the New Mexico State Police, the accident happened near milepost 220, west of Tatum at about 8:00 PM.
Based on a report, a 47-year-old Albuquerque man drove his 2011 Mercedes from the eastbound lane into the centerline. Subsequently, the vehicle collided head-on into a westbound 2016 Ford pick-up truck.
As a result, Kenny Comstock, the Ford driver, and his wife, Melissa Comstock suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Their three children, ages 6, 4, and 1, suffered injuries. Medics transported them to area hospitals. In addition, crews also sent the driver and sole occupant of the Mercedes to an area hospital. The current conditions of those injured is not known.
Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. However, the New Mexico State Police continues the investigation.
