Seth Button, Neil Sartain Killed, Curtis Hawks Hospitalized in Head-On Collision on 82 Freeway near East Yakima Avenue
YAKIMA, WA (September 24, 2020)—A head-on collision on the 82 Freeway near East Yakima Avenue Tuesday left two people dead.
According to the Washington State Patrol, two men from Lower Valley were traveling in the wrong direction on the 82 Freeway.
Upon discovering this, Kittitas County sheriff’s deputies tried stopping the wrong-way traveling 1995 Chevrolet TrailBlazer. In addition, its driver, 35-year-old Seth O. Button, had a State Department of Corrections warrant.
Around 2:56 a.m., State Patrol officers began pursuing the Trailblazer but broke off the chase as soon as the car began driving east in the westbound lanes.
Around 3:20 a.m., the Trailblazer collided with a westbound 2017 Dodge Ram 1500.
As a result of the accident, Button, of Toppenish, as well as his 40-year-old passenger from Grandview—Neil Y. Sartain—died in the crash.
As for the RAM driver, 60-year-old Curtis K. Hawks of Moxee, he survived the accident and received care at Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital.
At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
