Raymond Samante Detained for DUI After Passenger Exits Moving Car in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, NV (September 18, 2020) — A man died Thursday morning after exiting out of a moving car, driven by a DUI driver, on West Russel Road near South Buffalo Drive.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the incident happened just after midnight. A caller contacted police officers about a man lying in the roadway.
Upon responding, officers found the victim and called for medical assistance.
Shortly thereafter, paramedics transported him to University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
As of now, his identity has not been released but police described him as a 34-year-old man from North Las Vegas.
During the investigation, officers determined that a 2017 Toyota Tacoma was traveling eastbound on Russell Road. For unknown reasons, the 34-year-old man opened the door and exited the car as it was moving.
The driver of the Toyota, as well as a 27-year-old front passenger, exited the car after pulling the vehicle over and waited for authorities to arrive.
During the investigation, police arrested the 33-year old driver—Raymond Samante—after he displayed signs of impairment.
Since information remains scant at this time, authorities plan to examine this crash more closely.
This is devastating news to anyone who knew the victim. We would like to express our sincere sympathies to those in grief.
