Fernando Padilla Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on East Lohman Avenue at South Walnut Street
LAS CRUCES, NM (September 18, 2020) — A man died following Tuesday’s hit-and-run pedestrian accident on East Lohman Avenue at South Walnut Street.
According to Las Cruces police, a driver struck Fernando Padilla as he tried retrieving his dog that had escaped and wandered into traffic.
Per officers, the driver stopped for a moment before leaving 28-year-old Padilla with severe injuries.
Paramedics arrived and airlifted Padilla to University Medical Center of El Paso where he later died, despite having received life-saving efforts.
Sometime after the event, the 34-year-old driver contacted officers and informed them of what had happened. However, at this time, charges against the driver remain in progress.
