Eric Rients in Critical Condition after Motorcycle Crash on Elm Street [Taft, CA]
17-Year-Old Driver Involved in Motorcycle Crash on Elm Street near Pierce Street in Taft
TAFT, CA (September 8, 2020) – Police identified Eric Rients as the rider who suffered critical injuries in a motorcycle crash on Elm Street on Tuesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at Pierce Street.
Based on a report, Rients, 45, was eastbound on a 2005 Suzuki GSXR 1000. In front of him was a 2007 Jeep Liberty driven by a 17-year-old Taft girl. The girl slowed to make a left turn onto Pierce Street and Rients began an illegal pass through the intersection. Subsequently, the motorcycle collided with the left side of the car. Consequently, the impact ejected Rients from his bike.
As a result, medics said he suffered major injuries. They airlifted him to a hospital in a critical condition.
The CHP doesn’t have additional information at this time. In addition, officers continue to investigate the case.
