Man Dies in San Jose Pedestrian Crash Involving Ambulance Driver
SAN JOSE, CA (September 8, 2020) — An ambulance struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday on McKee Road near El Rancho Verde Drive.
According to the San Jose police, the incident happened at approximately 5:00 a.m.
A pedestrian, believed to be crossing outside of a marked crosswalk, died after an eastbound ambulance – without its lights or sirens on – struck him.
Immediately after, the ambulance crew stopped and rendered aid before a second ambulance arrived and transported him to a local hospital.
However, in spite of life-saving efforts, the unidentified pedestrian succumbed to his injuries.
According to the police, the ambulance driver has been cooperative with the investigation thus far.
Police have determined that the ambulance was not transporting any patients at the time of the crash; however, the liabilities, detailed circumstances and where the fault lies remain unclear.
