Four Hospitalized after Rear-End Crash on 8 Freeway in Wellton
WELLTON, AZ (September 1, 2020) – Emergency crews confirmed that at least two children suffered critical injuries in an accident on eastbound 8 Freeway on Tuesday morning.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the accident happened at milepost 34 at about 6:52 AM.
Based on a report, two vehicles collided in the lanes. Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents from Wellton Station said that a vehicle was speeding when it rear-ended another car. Subsequently, the vehicle lost control and sent the other car off the road. Afterward, agents said the driver at fault and two others fled the scene on foot.
As a result, crews airlifted two children to a Phoenix hospital with critical injuries. In addition, they also took a woman to a hospital in Yuma to treat her injuries.
