Norris Whittington Sr. Dies in Big Rig Crash on 60 Freeway Near South Diamond Bar Boulevard
BALDWIN PARK, CA (September 1, 2020) — A 55-year-old man died early Monday following a big rig crash on the 60 Freeway near South Diamond Bar Boulevard.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a flatbed tractor-trailer, driven by Norris R. Whittington Sr., tried swerving to the right to avoid a slow-moving vehicle around 1:10 a.m.
However, Whittington’s attempt to avoid the imminent accident had only set off a chain of events, tragically claiming his life, as well as affecting other motorists nearby.
Per authorities, a piece of heavy equipment fell off the truck and onto the freeway while hydraulic fluid cascaded onto the highway.
Reports noted that 15 vehicles somehow became involved in the accident and a driver and a passenger complained of pain.
By 1:40 a.m., the CHP issued a Sigalert until 7 a.m. due to clean up and the investigation.
So far, authorities have ruled out drugs and alcohol as suspected factors in the accident; however, if anyone has more information to add, please contact the CHP.
