Driver Killed in Fiery Solo-Car Crash on 210 Freeway Near South Azusa Avenue [Azusa, CA]
Deadly Crash on 210 Freeway in Azusa
AZUSA, CA (August 24, 2020)—One person died Friday following a fiery single-car crash on 210 Freeway East Freeway near South Azusa Avenue.
According to reports, the coroner’s office has yet to identify the 24-year old Rancho Cucamonga woman who was trapped in the burning SUV.
Investigators believe that the 2010 Mercedes GLK 250 went off the road after traveling eastbound on the freeway. The Mercedes subsequently struck a tree and caught on fire, trapping the driver in the vehicle.
Fortunately, a 33-year-old Rancho Cucamonga woman–a passenger in the car–was able to escape the burning SUV to safety. When paramedics arrived, they transported her to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center with a broken left arm and chest pain.
Authorities remain unsure as to what drove the 2:15 a.m. accident; however, anyone with information should contact Officer Sergio Garcia at the CHP Baldwin Park area office at 626-338-1164.
