Man Killed in Multi-Car Crash on 80 Freeway [Berkeley, CA]
Three Vehicles Involved in Fatal Crash on 80 Freeway near Gilman Street in Berkeley
BERKELEY, CA (August 19, 2020) – Police confirmed that a man died in a multi-car crash on 80 Freeway on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near the Gilman Street on-ramp west of Buchanan Street just after 3:00 PM.
Based on a report, a Toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. Due to an unknown reason, it changed lanes and subsequently hit a black Lexus IS 350. Consequently, the Toyota lost control, hit the center divider, and careened into a blue Ford Ranger.
Emergency crews found the Toyota driver with significant injuries. As a result, the victim died at the scene. Officials did not release his name pending kin notification.
Fire officials released a Sig-alert, blocking multiple lanes on the freeway for over an hour.
At this time, officials do not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved. Officers ask anyone with information to call the CHP’s Oakland office at 510-547-2875.
