Man, Woman Seriously Injured in Crash on San Elijo Road [San Marcos, CA]
Two Elderly Motorists Rescued in Rollover Car Crash in San Marcos
SAN MARCOS, CA (August 16, 2020) – An 84-year-old man and a 77- year-old woman suffered serious injuries in a crash on San Elijo Road on Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened near Schoolhouse Way at approximately 9:22 AM.
Based on a report, the elderly man was driving a 2017 Toyota Prius with the elderly woman as his passenger. Due to speed, he was unable to make a right turn onto San Elijo Road. Consequently, he continued through the intersection and briefly drove westbound in the eastbound lane.
Subsequently, he struck the curb, continued over the sidewalk, and about 150 feet down the hillside. The vehicle came to rest on its passenger side against a chain-link fence at the bottom of the hillside.
San Marcos Fire Department personnel arrived and rescued both victims who were trapped inside the vehicle. As a result, crews sent them to Palomar Medical Center for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case. At this time, officers don’t have the details regarding the cause of the crash.
