Bonnie Jeban Injured, Driver Dead After Train Strikes Overturned Vehicle Near Oswell Street [Bakersfield, CA]
Bonnie Jeban Hospitalized in Deadly Crash Involving Train Near Oswell Street and Edison Highway
BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 6, 2020) — A woman suffered major injuries during Wednesday’s deadly rollover crash that resulted in a collision with a train near Oswell Street and Edison Highway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, both Bonnie Jeban and her 21-year-old boyfriend were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
The crash happened around 11 a.m. when the Nissan Altima the pair had been occupying was heading eastbound on Edison Highway at a high rate of speed.
The Nissan passed another vehicle from the second lane; however, the driver lost control and swerved to the left across a raised center median. From there, the Nissan traveled onto the north shoulder of the road and overturned onto a nearby railroad track. Subsequently, an oncoming eastbound BNSF freight train struck the Nissan, killing the 21-year-old driver and injuring 21-year-old Jeban.
Investigators remain determined in parsing out the details to determine the underlying cause, such as whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the accident.
