Passenger Killed in Police Chase Crash on Highway 99 Near Nelson Road [Oroville, CA]
Deadly Police Pursuit Crash Involving DUI Turns Fatal in Oroville
OROVILLE, CA (August 3, 2020) – One person died in a rollover accident following a high-speed police chase crash on Highway 99 near Nelson Road Thursday evening.
According to reports, the crash unfolded when police found a 2018 tan Kia sedan driving recklessly eastbound on Highway 162. Additionally, officers determined that the car had been stolen.
However, as officers tried to pull over the Kia, the driver fled at a high rate of speed and a police chase ensued.
The car, which carried a male driver and a female passenger, turned onto Highway 99 and headed toward Chico.
For unknown reasons, however, approximately three miles south of where Highway 99 meets Highway 149, the car drove off the highway and overturned several times.
Following the crash, CHP found the driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, with major injuries. Paramedics transported him to Enloe Medical Center for treatment.
Unfortunately, the female passenger of the vehicle died in the accident and her identity has not been released.
During the investigation, officers learned that either alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. Although, a follow-up investigation is required to determine this account, as well as any other outstanding details.
