Leonardo Cellura Dies in Lafayette Bicycle Accident
LAFAYETTE, CA (July 30, 2020) – An Amazon delivery vehicle struck and killed a 10-year-old child riding a bicycle along Merriewood Drive near Rohrer Drive Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, the deadly incident happened in the 500 block of Merriewood Drive.
Authorities responded just minutes after the 1:00 p.m. accident to find the seriously injured 10-year-old, described as a Lafayette resident.
Paramedics arrived minutes later and transported him to a nearby hospital where, despite life-saving measures, he passed away. The coroner’s office has identified the victim as Leonardo Cellura.
At this time, it is unclear how the crash occurred; however, during the investigation, detectives took blood samples from the Amazon vehicle driver and have yet to determine whether speed or impairment played a role.
