16-Year-Old Skateboarder Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run on Oak Street [Elko, NV]
Skateboarder Struck by Hit-and-Run Pickup Truck on 6th Street at Oak Street in Elko
ELKO, NV (July 25, 2020) – A 16-year-old skateboarder suffered serious injuries in a crash on Oak Street on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Elko Police Department, the collision happened at Oak Street around 5:10 PM.
Based on reports, the teen was skateboarding in the travel lane down a steep hill on Oak at the time of the accident. At that time, a pickup truck was traveling south on 6th Street when it struck the victim. The intersection had no stop or yield signs in either direction. As a result, the impact threw the victim approximately 30 feet from the scene. In addition, the pickup’s driver fled the scene.
Consequently, the victim sustained serious injuries in the crash. Crews transported him to NNRH before being airlifted to a larger care facility.
Witnesses described the vehicle as a white Dodge Dakota extended cab with tinted windows, oversized tires, and some type of pipe sticking from the rear bed.
At this point, police don’t have additional details. Finally, they ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Elko Dispatch at 777-7300.
