Jonathan Williams Dies in Highway 99 Motorcycle Accident [Ripon, CA]
Jonathan Williams Perishes in Motorcycle Crash on Highway 99 Near Main Street
RIPON, CA (July 24, 2020) – A 20-year-old man died in a motorcycle accident Wednesday afternoon on Highway 99 near Main Street.
According to a California Highway Patrol news release, the 2:30 p.m. incident occurred on the northbound side, just south of Main Street.
Investigators determined that Jonathan Williams was riding his 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle at speeds of 60 mph. As he rode, splitting traffic between the No. 1 and 2 lanes, he somehow lost control of the bike.
The motorcycle subsequently fell onto its side and slid into the trailer of a Freightliner big rig in the No. 2 lane. Unfortunately, the big rig ran over the Ripon rider as the man slid underneath the fourth and fifth axles, resulting in his death.
As for the 63-year-old Manteca driver of the Freightliner, he or she was not injured.
Due to the crash, drivers faced heavy congestion on the northbound freeway around 3:35 p.m.
At this time, information surrounding the liabilities and the cause of the accident require further investigation.
