DUI Driver Jorge Perez Causes Fatal Crash on Highway 101 at Telephone Road in Ventura
VENTURA, CA (July 18, 2020) – Police arrested 19-year-old Jorge Perez of Compton after a fatal accident on Highway 101 northbound on early Saturday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at Telephone Road around 2:00 AM.
Based on a report, Perez was driving a Ford Mustang at a high rate of speed prior to the accident. Consequently, as he approached the transition road to Highway 126, he swerved to avoid hitting a slower-moving vehicle in front of him. He then lost control and crashed the car. As a result, the car ran off the highway and overturned down an embankment, ending up on its roof.
One passenger, a 21-year-old who was not wearing a seat belt was thrown from the vehicle. Crews pronounced the victim dead at the scene. They did not release his name pending notification of relatives. Crews took the car’s two other passengers to Ventura County Medical Center with moderate injuries. Perez also suffered minor injuries.
Police booked Jorge Perez into Ventura County jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. At this time, the accident remains under investigation by the CHP.
