Teens Hospitalized in DUI Watsonville Crash
WATSONVILLE, CA (July 17, 2020) — Paramedics ushered four people to a hospital following Sunday’s DUI car accident on Beach Street and Clearwater Lane.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 17-year-old driver operating a gray Nissan Altima westbound on West Beech Street began approaching Clearwater Lane.
Traveling at an undetermined yet high rate of speed, the vehicle lost control and traveled off the road. Subsequently, the Nissan veered into a ditch, struck a metal pole and continued in a northwesterly direction.
From there, the car became airborne and slammed into a wooden utility pole before overturning and landing on its wheels.
The two rear passengers, who authorities say had been unrestrained, were ejected from the vehicle. As a result, paramedics transported them to Natividad Hospital in Salinas with major, life-threatening injuries.
In the investigation, officers determined that DUI likely led to the accident.
