Elyzah Leon Injured in Fatal Crash on 80 Freeway [Pershing County, NV]
Elyzah Leon Hospitalized, Passenger Killed in 80 Freeway Crash Near Mile Marker 156
PERSHING COUNTY, NV (July 14, 2020) – A solo-car accident Sunday on the 80 Freeway near Mile Marker 156 left a juvenile passenger dead at the scene.
According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the incident happened near mile marker 156 in Pershing County.
Investigators determined that a gray Nissan Maxima veered off the westbound lanes of the 80 Freeway and traveled onto a dirt median.
There, it struck a construction barrel, causing the driver to overcorrect and travel across the westbound lanes. The vehicle then ran off the road and overturned.
Elyzah Leon of Winnemucca, as well as her female juvenile passenger, failed to use a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.
Unfortunately, the unidentified female passenger, also from Winnemucca, died at the scene.
Authorities have yet to determine what caused Leon, 18, to lose control of the vehicle.
Our sympathies are with the bereaved friends and family of the victim. This is no easy information to take in and we hope you find courage and strength in those around you.
