Man Struck and Killed by Vehicle After Crashing Own Car on 5 Freeway in Encinitas

 
ENCINITAS, CA (July 9, 2020) – A vehicle struck and killed a man in an accident on 5 Freeway on Thursday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened just south of La Costa Avenue a few minutes after 10:00 PM.
 
Based on a report, the man was driving a small black vehicle erratically before the incident. As a result, he then crashed in the lanes. Following the crash, he got out of the car and ran through the southbound lanes. A vehicle heading southbound struck him
 
Personnel from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Officials did not release his name pending kin notification.
 
Authorities shut down the two right lanes of the freeway to give way to an investigation. As of this time, police don’t have additional details related to the case.
