Gerald Simmons Dies in Upper Twin Lake Crash [Mammoth Lakes, CA]
Gerald Simmons Killed After Car Crashes Into Upper Twin Lake off Twin Lakes Road
MAMMOTH LAKES, CA (July 9, 2020)— A 61-year-old man died when his truck veered off Twin Lakes Road and crashed into Upper Twin Lake Wednesday.
The incident happened around 7:50 a.m. just west of Charlie Day Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a passenger in the 2013 Chevrolet pickup that crashed informed officials that the driver suffered some type of medical emergency.
As a result, the truck veered off the road and plunged into Upper Twin Lake.
Fortunately, the passenger became successful in getting himself out of the vehicle and swimming to shore.
As for the truck, it came to rest about 75 to 100 feet from the shore and 19 feet down.
CHP officers have ruled out alcohol as a possible factor in the accident.
A day after this fatal event, a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office dive team helped recover the body of Gerald Christopher Simmons from the vehicle.
Authorities believe the Las Vegas man had been the driver in the Wednesday morning accident.
An investigation concerning the ultimate cause of this incident remains.
Our hearts and condolences are with the family and friends of Gerald Christopher Simmons.
