Driver Dies in Two-Vehicle Accident at San Carlos Street and Buena Vista Avenue [San Jose, CA]
Fatal Collision Involving Bus in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (July 6, 2020) — A driver died after rear-ending a bus at San Carlos Street and Buena Vista Avenue Friday.
According to reports, officers arrived around 5:15 p.m. and determined that a black Mitsubishi rear-ended a Valley Transportation Authority bus.
Detectives determined that the VTA bus was slowing down as it pulled up to a stop sign on the westbound lanes of West San Carlos Street. Subsequently, the Mitsubishi driver slammed into its rear, causing fatal injuries to the 40-year-old Mitsubishi driver.
A 30-year-old Mitsubishi passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and a 36-year-old man in the same car suffered less severe injuries.
Per reports, the bus driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and two passengers in the bus escaped harm.
Still, it’s uncertain what had led to the accident and at what speed the Mitsubishi had been traveling. However, if anyone can help investigators, please contact Detective Troy Sirmons of the San Jose Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit at (408) 277-4654.
To the family and friends of the victim, we hope you find strength and hope during this heavy time. Our condolences are with you.
