Amanda Payne, Georgia Salata Hospitalized in Albuquerque Hit-and-Run
ALBUQUERQUE, NM (July 3, 2020) — Two high school students were injured in a June 18 hit-and-run collision at Tramway Boulevard Northeast near Academy Boulevard Northeast.
According to reports, Georgia Salata had just turned 16 a day before the accident and received a new car as a birthday gift. She, as well as her friend, Amaya Payne, had just wrapped up a morning hike on La Luz Trail with six other Rio Rancho High School basketball players.
However, their day took a detour when the two were rushed to the University of New Mexico Hospital following the two-car accident.
Reports noted that two young men in an unspecified make and model blew through a red traffic light and T-boned Salata’s vehicle. Authorities confirmed that she had been the driver while Payne was the passenger.
The men fled the scene, leaving the two Rio Rancho High basketball teammates with injuries. As of late, the two men have yet to be accounted for.
Payne reportedly underwent a four-and-a-half surgery the following day after having lost a lot of blood; Salata has been moved out of the ICU and is recovering.
