Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Car on Mapleview Street Near Ashwood Street [Lakeside, CA]
Man Dies in Lakeside Pedestrian Accident
LAKESIDE, CA (July 6, 2020) — A Lakeside man died Thursday following a pedestrian accident on Mapleview Street near Ashwood Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened as the 50-year-old Lakeside man was crossing Mapleview Street outside of a marked crosswalk.
Around 9:35 p.m., however, a 71-year-old San Diego man at the wheel of a Hyundai SUV heading eastbound struck the unidentified pedestrian.
Police believe the pedestrian had failed to yield to the vehicle as it approached and stepped into the traffic lanes.
Following the crash, the driver stopped and waited for authorities to arrive. The pedestrian, however, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Police determined that while alcohol did not play a part on the driver’s responsibility, it may have played a factor on the pedestrian’s part.
An investigation regarding this claim demands further examination.
Our condolences and sincere sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim.
